ARMANDO BETANCOR


Armando Betancor co-founded Rockmond in 2014, and serves as Managing Partner based in London and Madrid.

Mr. Betancor brings to Rockmond decades of experience in the legal, finance, international insolvency, and restructuring sectors. He is a specialist in cross-border transactions. Prior to co-founding Rockmond, Mr. Betancor co-founded and is Managing Partner of ALAS Legal Advisors, a firm specialized in commercial law that has been involved in more than 300 bankruptcy proceedings and has participated in large insolvencies and restructurings, and litigation financings for years. Previously, he was the Director of the Insolvency and Restructuring Department at Araoz y Rueda Abogados and was Manager of the PwC office in the Canary Islands.

Mr. Betancor graduated from the faculty of law of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and holds master’s in business law, and urban planning and real estate law. He is a graduate of the Lawyers Management Program (LMP) of the London School of Economics and IE Law School. He also is a graduate of the Masterclass in Private Equity of the London Business School. Mr. Betancor is a member of the International Bar Association, the Turnaround Management Association, and the Spanish Club of Arbitration, were he is a member of the committee responsible for elaborating a manual on best practices. Mr. Betancor speaks Spanish and English.

Mr. Betancor is the Insolvency Administrator of the Petersen companies and structured the legal finance agreement with Burford Capital (“Burford”) to sue the Argentine Republic in what is known as Burford’s -and the legal finance industry’s- flagship case, which is valued at about $9 billion USD. The legal finance agreement was the first of its magnitude in Spain and proved legal finance to be a novel instrument in the context of bankruptcy proceedings.

Mr. Betancor is ranked in Band 2 of Chambers in the category of Restructuring/Insolvency: Administration – Spain (Europe). He and his team at ALAS Legal Advisors recently published the Spain chapter in the Insolvency 2019 Chambers Global Practice Guide. Mr. Betancor is also co-author of the Spain chapter of the Litigation Funding Magazine 2019 and 2020 editions, published by Lexology Getting the Deal Through.

CÉSAR CERVERA


César Cervera co-founded Rockmond in 2014, and serves as Managing Partner based in Madrid.

Mr. Cervera brings to Rockmond decades of experience and is an expert in the legal, finance, international insolvency, and restructuring sectors. Previously, Mr. Cervera held numerous positions in the private sector before founding his own law firm in 1997. Mr. Cervera also is co-founder and Managing Partner of ALAS Legal Advisors, a firm specialized in commercial law that has been involved in more than 300 bankruptcy proceedings and has participated in large insolvencies and restructurings, and litigation financings for years.

Mr. Cervera graduated from the faculty of law of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and from the IE Law School with a master’s in corporate legal counselling. He is a graduate of the Lawyers Management Program (LMP) of the London School of Economics and IE Law School. He also is a graduate of the Masterclass in Private Equity of the London Business School. Mr. Cervera is a member of the International Bar Association, the Turnaround Management Association, and the Spanish Club of Arbitration, were he is a member of the committee responsible for elaborating a manual on best practices. Mr. Cervera is a regular speaker at international arbitration conferences. Mr. Cervera speaks Spanish and English.

Mr. Cervera is co-author of the Spain chapter of the Litigation Funding Magazine 2019 and 2020 editions, published by Lexology Getting the Deal Through. Mr. Cervera has also been interviewed as an expert in legal finance by the leading legal newspapers in Spain, Expansión and Confilegal, and Latin America in CIAR Global.
